Captain Bob Morgan named her after his girlfriend back home in Memphis, Margaret Polk. The Belle's iconic art, painted by Corporal Tony Starcer, became one of the most recognizable images of the war: a beautiful woman in a bathing suit, waving from the side of a bomber.
